Working with Gemini…Again

I’m taking tonight to work with Gemini again. I meant to attempt this before but we moved and I never got to it. Also, not going to lie, I’ve been playing a lot of Roblox with my granddaughter. It’s pretty fun. I’m also learning to use the Roblox Studio because that’s half the fun for me. She’s got me doing Roblox horror backrooms. Who even knew such a thing existed? Anyway, I worked with Gemini again to create a first attempt at something that can be used to see how basic shapes interact with each other to create patterns. I think this works best if you think about the number of sides the shape has and the number of shapes you use. If you are working with a five-sided star then try using five stars. Since you’re working with fives try a shape size of 10 because that is a multiple of five right? It gets you something interesting looking at least.

I had a heck of a time getting Gemini to understand I wanted it to distribute the color throughout the pattern so I gave up. Each instance of a shape is a single color. So when the shapes overlap they change colors kind of like watercolor. Adjusting the transparency can result in some interesting color effects. I may attempt to come at this from a different angle for shape generation next time but for now this actually does what i want it to. It allows me to see how very basic shapes can become patterns. It lets me plan patterns and shows me what will and won’t work together. I love working with Gemini, It’s pretty good at code and its very patient and polite.

How to use:

  • Best on desktop.
  • Choose a shape.
  • Choose your settings like number of shapes, outline color, line width, etc.
  • There are a few preset color palettes you can choose from.
  • The shapes stack. So if you choose “Use Monochrome” the transparency setting is set lower so you can get a pattern that is darkening shades of a single color.
  • Right-click the image and choose “save image as” to save a copy of your pattern.
  • Here is a Gemini Canvas link to the project: https://gemini.google.com/share/d1432c370041
