Dawn Summerall - Dreams - The Plucky Robot

I have been taking a new medication called Lamotrigine and it gives me some really weird dreams. So, I’m logging this one today and I’m going to try and make some AI imagery to accompany this retelling of a dream. It is just a swatch of a memory. That is sometimes how dreams are.

I dreamed I was in a post-apocalyptic world and I was working to defeat a nameless, unknown enemy. My sidekick was a young, plucky robot. He was gold and bright and childlike. He reminded me of a cross between C-3PO and Megaman. In an act of great bravery, the young robot sacrificed himself to save me and humanity.

In the process of sacrificing himself, because the cyborg/robot did look like a young boy, he became trapped and injured. Though the drastic measures he took defeated the nameless horror, the robot was in bad shape. He had flown to engage the enemy in battle and at the of the fight, he was thrown into a pile of standing, crushed train cars and trapped. The train cars were stacked like dominos and very unstable. The disruption and chaos of the fight caused the train cars to begin to topple. The robot was trapped in this pile and when the train cars began to fall on him and crush him he cried out in a human voice, “Ow, ow, ow, this hurts so bad! It’s crushing me!”

During all of this, I was hiding behind a junked car behind piles of junk. I was in agony hearing the screams of my suffering friend. I knew I was not safe. I knew there was more fighting to come and I would be part of that upcoming battle. But then I heard a screeching metallic noise echo through the night as the train cars again shifted and one by one toppled over like dominos onto my severely injured cyborg companion. He screamed. He screamed so loud it turned into a digital stream of deafening decibels.  There was nothing left in that sound that was humanoid. Finally, the sound stopped and silence fell on the junkyard.

Peaceful music swelled up and filled the scene as though it were a movie. It was music that signaled that the AI had died and that he was finally at peace. But, I heard this music and doubted that. I did not believe everything was okay.
